Meet Linas: A Team Lead’s Journey to Building Strong Teams and Innovative Solutions
Join us as we explore the professional journey of Linas, a passionate Team Lead at Metasite. From his early days managing delivery teams in a bank to his current role, Linas shares his experiences, challenges, and motivations. Discover how he navigates the complexities of software engineering, fosters a collaborative environment, and continues to learn and grow every day.
Why do you do what you do – in other words, why does leading a software delivery team tickle your fancy?
Working within a team of software engineers is incredibly challenging. They tackle complex issues daily, using various tools and programming languages to solve business problems. This requires both technical and business domain knowledge. Leading such smart individuals allows me to learn new things and grow constantly. Every day is different.
What was the path (or highlights of the path ☺) that led to you becoming a Team Lead at Metasite?
Before joining Metasite, I led three delivery teams at a bank, where I grew as an engineering manager. I reached a point where I needed something new to learn. Then Diana contacted me at the right time, and here I am at Metasite, two years now. Funny fact, that Metasite could have been my first company to work in (when finishing the studies, I applied to the position of BA), but it took me a while to join the team ;).
If you had to explain what you do at Metasite in 2-3 sentences (or more ☺) – how would you explain it?
I aim to make clients, team members, and the Metasite company happy. This involves organising work for the teams, ensuring they create business value, fostering a collaborative environment, managing budget, and supporting continuous improvement.
What are the things you like and enjoy the most in your work?
Helping others is a significant aspect, whether it’s improving workflows, supporting developers’ growth, or achieving business goals. I also appreciate the flexible environment and the continuous learning opportunities at Metasite.
What are the things you dislike the most in your work? ☺
Tasks that lack clear value and repetitive tasks, which remind me to use the “eat the frog” method.
What’s next on your “to-learn” bucket list?
I plan to go deeper in to Domain-Driven Design (DDD) as well as to learn C#/.NET, which will help me succeed in my current role and projects. I enjoy being in a constant learning mode, which is why I love working at Metasite.
Who/what inspires you?
Kids inspire me to see the world differently, enjoy every moment, and adapt to their growth and changes.
What are your favourite book(s) or author(s) – or blogger(s) – that you would recommend? (…and why are they your favourites?)
My preferences change with my mood, but I enjoy detective stories, war history, and must-read books. Recently, I finished “Man a Machine” by Julien Offray de La Mettrie.
Do you have a favourite quote?
I like a few quotes:
“If you don’t ask, the answer is always NO.”
“Better to feel sorry for what you did than for what you didn’t.”
“The intention of a person is kind in most situations.”
In a different life – if you were not a Team Lead at a software development company – what job/profession would you choose, and why?
I enjoy spending time with kids, so I might shift to a profession involving children. I also like creating fairy tales and stories to my kids, so perhaps I could become a children’s writer someday.
What does #MetasiteLife feel like for you?
It’s about close relationships, personal attention, easy access to anyone in the company, and interesting projects.
